Penguins vs. Bruins Game 1: Matt Cooke ejected for hit on Adam McQuaid

Is a suspension coming?

USA TODAY Sports

Matt Cooke clearly doesn't get the benefit of the doubt anymore. Cooke was ejected from Game 1 after checking Boston's Adam McQuaid from behind in the second period.

As Cooke finished jousting with another Bruin he turned and promptly checked McQuaid hard in the numbers against the glass.

Cooke was given a five-minute major for checking from behind and a game misconduct. McQuaid was down on the ice for a few moments and then went to the locker room.

Is this worth a suspension? I kind of doubt it. Was it a stupid play? Yes. Cooke should know by now that the officials aren’t about to give him any leeway when he makes dangerous hits.
