The Montreal Canadiens have signed defenseman Davis Drewiske to a contract extension, the team announced Thursday morning.

The two sides have come to terms on a two-year deal. The financial terms of the agreement were not available at the time of this writing. Drewiske finished out the final year of a three-year, $1.85 million contract that carried an average annual value of $616, 667 against the salary cap. He was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this July.
Montreal acquired Drewiske from the Los Angeles Kings on April 2 in exchange for a fifth-round selection in the 2014 NHL Draft. In nine games with the Canadiens, Drewiske registered three points (goal, two assists) and averaged 16:49 of ice time per game, which included significant time on the penalty kill (2:16 average).
The 28-year-old has played in 135 career regular-season games but has yet to make his debut in the postseason.
