The Florida Panthers have acquired forward Bobby Butler from the Nashville Predators in exchange for defenseman TJ Brennan, according to Bob McKenzie of TSN.

Both players are scheduled to become restricted free agents this summer so essentially the teams merely traded the rights of the two players. In order to maintain control of them, then, the clubs will need to extend qualifying offers.
Brennan played outhis one-year, $550,000 contract last season with the Panthers, but he didn't start in Florida. The 24-year-old began the 2013 season as a member of the Buffalo Sabres before being traded to Florida on March 15 for a fifth-round selection in the 2013 NHL Draft. In 19 games with the Panthers, Brennan averaged 17:10 of ice-time, which included substantial time on the power play (2:05 average).
Butler started the 2013 season with the New Jersey Devils organization but was waived by the club in March. He was then claimed by the Predators. In 20 games with Nashville, Butler registered nine points (three goals and six assists).
