Marian Hossa injury: Blackhawks star a late scratch after warmups mishap

The Blackhawks will be without one of their best players in Game 3.

Harry How

Marian Hossa will not play in Game 3 after being injured during pregame warmups, the Chicago Blackhawks announced just minutes before the start of the game. Early speculation held that Hossa was injured after being hit by a shot during warmups, but that has yet to be confirmed by the team.

This is an enormous loss for the Blackhawks. Hossa is tied for the team lead in playoff scoring with Patrick Sharp, scoring seven goals and eight assists through 19 games.

Ben Smith will take Hossa's place in the lineup. This will be Smith's first playoff game this year, but he did record three goals in seven playoff games for the Blackhawks in 2011.
