Game 6 between the Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins has the potential to be the last NHL game of the season. Through 20 minutes, the Bruins are doing an excellent job making sure that isn't the case.
Blackhawks vs. Bruins Game 6 update: Chris Kelly gives Boston 1-0 lead
The Bruins dominated the opening period and took a 1-0 lead.
The biggest question for Game 6 prior to puck drop was Patrice Bergeron. After suffering an injury in Game 5 that required him to visit the hospital, his status for Game 6 was up in the air until the last minute, when the Bruins confirmed that he would be in the lineup. That was good news for Boston, as Bergeron is one of their most offensively talented players, but it remained to be seen how close he was to 100%.
The Bruins came out flying early in the first, putting significant pressure on the Blackhawks in the opening minutes of the game. Corey Crawford made several good saves, but Chris Kelly was eventually able to give the Bruins the first goal of the game:
Boston would continue to dominate the remainder of the first period after taking the lead, and the Blackhawks were lucky to escape the first down by only one goal. The Bruins led in shots, 12-6, at the first intermission.
