Vancouver has a logjam at goalie with Cory Schneider and Roberto Luongo capable of being the No. 1 guy between the pipes, but the Canucks are now open to trading the younger and cheaper Schneider, according to CBC.

The Vancouver Canucks are trying to trade a goalie, but they may not be as picky as once thought about which one gets moved.

The 27-year-old Schneider had a 2.11 goals against average to go along with a solid .927 save percentage in his first season as the full-time starter. He has two years remaining on a deal that carries an annual cap hit of $4 million and doesn’t have a no-trade clause.
Luongo, who has also been the subject of trade rumors, is locked into a contract that has a $5.3 million annual cap hit until 2022 and has full no-trade and no-movement clauses. While many have speculated that Luongo could be a candidate for one of two amnesty buyouts each team is afforded under the new collective bargaining agreement, the Canucks would have to pay Luongo $27 million to not play for them.
Thus the trade rumors. Vancouver is sure to get a better return for Schneider, who comes cheaper and much younger. Luongo is 34 years old but is still capable of being a No. 1 goalie in the NHL, so the Canucks could afford to lose Schneider for the right return.
With high-priced players being bought out across the league and a loaded class awaiting at the 2013 NHL Draft, which begins Sunday, a flurry of movement could on the horizon in the NHL.
