Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli is listening to trade offers for 21-year-old winger Tyler Seguin, according to TSN's Bob McKenzie.

The Bruins are looking to make a major shakeup to gain some financial flexibility, meaning Tyler Seguin might be on the trading block.

Seguin, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2010 NHL Draft, signed a six-year contract extension that carries a $5.75 million salary per year through the 2018-2019 season. The right wing had a breakout season in 2011-2012 when he tallied 67 points for the Bruins, but took a step backwards with 32 points and a lackluster playoff performance this year.
Despite the step back, Seguin is still young and has occasionally flashed the ability that made him a high draft pick in 2010. Some have questioned his fit in with Boston coach Claude Julien’s system so he’s still likely to bring in a large return for the Bruins that including a high first round draft pick and another player that can contribute right away.
The Bruins still need to re-sign goalie Tuukka Rask, who dominated throughout the postseason, and Patrice Bergeron. Bergeron played through a laundry list of injuries in the Stanley Cup Finals and is expected to receive a contract extension this offseason.
Those contracts, coupled with the decrease in the salary cap, mean the Bruins will have to get creative this offseason -- and trading Seguin’s contract could be the first step.
