Game 2 between the Boston Bruins and the Pittsburgh Penguins began with the Penguins trailing the series 1-0 and looking to get off to a strong start on home ice, but it was the Bruins who scored the game's first goal, just 28 seconds into the game. Boston scored the opening goal on their first shot of the game, when Brad Marchand beat Tomas Vokoun with a wrist shot on a breakaway:

The Bruins had goals in the first and last minutes of the opening frame as they ran over the sloppy and shell-shocked Penguins.

The goal came after a bad turnover from Sidney Crosby, which just goes to show that even the best player in the world can make a mistake every now and again. It was Marchand's third goal and tenth point of the playoffs.
The Penguins struggled offensively throughout the period, managing only three shots in the first thirteen minutes of the game. And it didn't help Pittsburgh that Tuukka Rask was perfect when he needed to be:
The Bruins would get another goal later in the period, this time off a giveaway from Kris Letang:
Nathan Horton had the goal, and Boston had a 2-0 lead with just over five minutes remaining in the first. But they weren't done yet.
David Krejci had the third goal of the period for the Bruins, and Vokoun was replaced in net by Marc-Andre Fleury.
The game looked like it just might turn into something more competitive when Brandon Sutter finally put Pittsburgh on the board on only their fifth shot of the game:
But the Penguins didn’t get to feel good for very long, as Brad Marchand scored his second goal of the period less than 30 seconds later and gave the Bruins back their three goal lead.
The period finally ended with the Bruins up 4-1. The Penguins had just six shots total in the opening 20 minutes.
