2013 NHL Draft: Blue Jackets select Kerby Rychel with No. 19 pick
The Columbus Blue Jackets used their second first-round selection to pick Kerby Rychel at No. 19.
The son of former NHLer Warren Rychel, Kerby was born in Los Angeles during Warren's time with the Kings. Kerby has spent the past three seasons in Windsor with the Spitfires, and he's improved his point total (13 to 74 to 87) each season he's been there.
ISS ranks Rychel No. 20 among all skaters in this year's draft. TSN analyst Craig Button has him at No. 27 among all prospects, while the NHL's Central Scouting Bureau has him ranked at No. 17 among North American skaters. ISS has him projected to be a player comparable to Chris Kunitz of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Similar to Max Domi, Kerby Rychel is the son of a former NHL player who blends his father’s work ethic with some additional skill the older never had. He has good offensive awareness, a great shot, and an ability to play in front of the net. He doesn’t skate overly well, and he’s not the best playmaker. But, as his numbers show, he has the ability to the put the puck in the net.
