NEWARK -- The New Jersey Devils have found Martin Brodeur's replacement. In a completely shocking trade in front of their home fans at the 2013 NHL Draft, the Devils sent the 9th overall pick in the draft to the Vancouver Canucks for goaltender Cory Schneider.
Cory Schneider trade: Canucks send goalie to Devils for 9th pick
The Devils and Canucks shocked Prudential Center at the 2013 NHL Draft, swapping goaltender Cory Schneider for the No. 9 overall pick.
The move solidifies the goaltending position beyond Martin Brodeur's impending retirement and also solves the goaltending carousel in Vancouver, where now it seems Roberto Luongo will remain as the starter for the foreseeable future.
Given the talk about a hefty price for Schneider, that it only took the No. 9 pick for the Devils to acquire him is even more shocking. With that pick, the Canucks selected center Bo Horvat from the OHL’s London Knights, a two-way forward who has big size and is responsible in all zones.
