The Colorado Avalanche have come to terms with goaltender coach Francois Allaire, according to a report by Renaud Lavoie of RDS.

The Colorado Avalanche have hired Francois Allaire as their goaltending coach. This will reunite Allaire with two of his pupils, head coach Patrick Roy and goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere.

The agreement is a verbal one made by Allaire to Colorado head coach and vice president of hockey operations Patrick Roy. The two men have a history together, as Allaire was Roy's goaltending coach while he was with the Montreal Canadiens. Under Allaire's tutelage, Roy won two Stanley Cups and two Conn Smythe trophies.
Allaire also has a connection with current Avalanche goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere. Allaire coached Giguere when he was with the Anaheim Ducks, which resulted in Giguere winning the Conn Smythe in 2003. In 2007, the two were part of the Ducks' Stanley Cup championship team. They also worked together while with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Allaire’s time with the Maple Leafs came to a tumultuous end, as general manager Brian Burke commented that Allaire’s techniques and teachings were out of date. According to Allaire, the organization was interfering with his methods. Whatever the case might have been, Allaire will receive another shot at the NHL in what seemingly will be a comfortable situation with individuals with which he has experience and history.
