The Pittsburgh Penguins entered Game 3 of their series against the Boston Bruins having lost the first two games on home ice. The Penguins could have used a strong start to get a bit of confidence going, but instead found themselves giving up yet another early goal. David Krejci scored for the Bruins scored just 1:42 into the period:

The Bruins scored early in the first period and held a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.
After the early goal, the play in the period was fairly even, though Pittsburgh mistakes were hard to ignore. Tomas Vokoun gave up several rebounds in the period that could have been dangerous if the Bruins had been able to reach them, and defenseman Kris Letang continued to struggle in the series, committing a dangerous giveaway that nearly gave the Bruins another goal.
The Penguins had a great chance on a power play late in the period, but their crisp passing failed to result in a goal when Chris Kunitz couldn't put the puck in the open net:
The period ended with Boston holding on to their 1-0 lead. Each team had 10 shots in the period.
