Oilers fire Ralph Krueger; Will Dallas Eakins be their new head coach?

After one season as head coach, Ralph Krueger has been fired by the Oilers. Are they set to name Dallas Eakins his successor?

Craig MacTavish has met with Toronto Marlies head coach Dallas Eakins several times in the last few weeks, according to multiple reports, and it seemed as though the Oilers general manager was prepared to offer Eakins an associate coaching position with the club.

But Eakins, perhaps the rising coaching talent in the AHL, is a hot commodity among the several NHL teams still looking to fill head coaching vacancies, and an associate position might not be enough to lure him to town. Could MacTavish offer him more? Well, not when Ralph Krueger currently occupies their head coaching position.

Oh ... not so fast. The Oilers fired Krueger on Saturday afternoon, and MacTavish told the media in making the announcement that he’s “close” to naming Krueger’s successor. So, we’ll wait and see what happens, and if there’s a bookie out there looking to take bets on who MacTavish hires, he might want to adjust the line on Dallas Eakins.
