The New York Rangers have come to terms on a contract extension with restricted free agent defenseman Justin Falk, the team announced Wednesday afternoon. The two sides agreed upon a one-year, $975,000 contract, according to Katie Strang of ESPN New York.

The Rangers acquired Falk via trade with the Minnesota Wild on the day of the 2013 NHL Draft. In exchange for Falk, New York sent a sixth-round draft selection in 2014 and the negotiating rights of unrestricted free agent forward Benn Ferriero to Minnesota.

Falk completed a one-year, $825,000 contract in 2013, according to CapGeek.com. In 36 regular season games with the Wild, Falk registered three assists, 40 penalty minutes and averaged 13:13 of ice time per game. Originally chosen with the No. 110 overall selection in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by Minnesota, Falk has participated in 108 career regular-season games and has accumulated 15 points (one goal, 14 assists) and 100 penalty minutes while averaging 15:59 of ice time.

This marks the second restricted free agent signed by the Rangers on Wednesday, as Carl Hagelin also agreed to a contract extension.
