Unrestricted free agent forward Damien Brunner is not approaching a contractual agreement with any team, according to agent Neil Sheehy, as told to Tom Guilitti of the Bergen Record on Monday morning.

Damien Brunner’s agent stated that the 27-year-old free agent is not about to sign a contract with a new team.

Guilitti tweeted that Sheehy told him a deal is not imminent as of this time. This slightly contradicts a previous account from Swiss reporter Nicola Berger, who tweeted on Saturday afternoon that Brunner appeared to be heading to the New Jersey Devils. Berger tweeted that the team had been doing an extensive amount of background work on the 27-year-old free agent.
According to previous reports, Brunner is seeking a multi-year contract with a $2.5 million annual average value. He played his first season in the NHL last year with the Detroit Red Wings. An issue in talks with Detroit centered on his limited time in North American hockey, which was compounded by the truncated 48-game season. This could be the potential holdup in negotiations with other NHL clubs, as teams might not be interested in committing years to a player who hasn't had the opportunity to display a consistent ability to produce in the league.
In 44 regular season games last season, Brunner registered 26 points (12 goals and 14 assists).
