Flames acquire T.J. Galiardi via trade with Sharks

The San Jose Sharks have traded pending restricted free agent forward T.J. Galiardi to the Calgary Flames.

USA TODAY Sports

The Calgary Flames have acquired pending restricted free agent forward T.J. Galiardi from the San Jose Sharks for an unspecified draft selection, according to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN on Tuesday afternoon.

It had been widely reported that Galiardi was placed on the trade block following the draft-day acquisition of pending restricted free agent forward Tyler Kennedy from the Pittsburgh Penguins. In exchange for Kennedy, the Sharks traded Pittsburgh the No. 50 overall selection in the 2013 NHL Draft, which was ultimately traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The club ended up selecting defenseman Dillon Heatherington from the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League.

Galiardi completed a one-year, $950,000 contract in 2013. The 25-year-old forward collected 14 points (five goals and nine assists) in 36 games in 2013. He was originally chosen with the No. 55 overall selection in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Colorado Avalanche.
