The Nashville Predators have placed forward Sergei Kostitsyn on unconditional waivers, according to multiple reports Wednesday afternoon.
Sergei Kostitsyn placed on waivers, time with Predators coming to end
Sergei Kostitsyn has been placed on waivers. It is believed that the Predators are looking to mutually terminate the remainder of his contract.

The purpose of placing Kostitsyn on waivers remains unclear at this time. Players being placed on unconditional waivers usually indicates the intention of a compliance buyout. However, it could also mean that the Predators are looking to mutually terminate Kostitsyn’s contract. Manager David Poile stated last week that Kostitsyn had been exploring opportunities in Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League and that the team was open to him doing so.
In the event that both sides wish to negate the deal, the first step to be taken would be the placement of the player on unconditional waivers. Whatever the end result might be, it’s clear that Kostitsyn’s time with the Predators is coming to an end.
The 26-year-old forward has one year remaining on a two-year, $6 million contract that carries an annual average value of $3 million.
