The Edmonton Oilers have come to terms on a contract agreement with unrestricted free agent defenseman Andrew Ference, according to Bob McKenzie of TSN. The two sides have agreed to a four-year deal that carries an annual average value of $3.25 million against the salary cap.

Ference spent the last six-plus seasons with the Boston Bruins. Boston decided to enter next season with a youth movement on defense, which includes Dougie Hamilton, Matt Bartkowski and Torey Krug. In addition, the declining salary cap likely played a factor in Ference leaving the Bruins.
Edmonton was believed to be looking to address its defense corps this offseason. According to multiple reports, the team was attempting to acquire Braydon Coburn from the Philadelphia Flyers via trade. How this signing alters that desire remains to be seen.
Ference has played in 760 career regular season games and has registered 193 points (37 goals and 156 assists) with an average ice time of 19:23.
