Unrestricted free agent forward Stephen Weiss has agreed to terms on a contract with the Detroit Red Wings, according to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN. Weiss agreed to a five-year, $24.5 million contract, that carries an annual average value of $4.9 million against the salary cap.

The Detroit Red Wings has come to terms on a contract agreement with forward Stephen Weiss.

Detroit and the St. Louis Blues were believed to be the final two teams in the running for Weiss.
Weiss had played the entirety of his career with the Florida Panthers. With his contract coming to an end this season, speculation rose about the potential of his being traded at the trade deadline. However, the 30-year-old forward sustained a season-ending wrist injury, which required surgery.
This was a detrimental development for the Panthers who potentially could have been traded for assets. Instead, he was able to leave the team without a return.
In 654 regular season games, Weiss has registered 394 points (145 goals and 249 assists).
