Dan Boyle contract: Sharks have begun preliminary discussions
Dan Boyle and the San Jose Sharks have begun discussing an extension.

The 37-year-old defenseman has one-year remaining on a six-year, $40 million contract that carries an annual average value of $6.6 million against the salary cap, according to CapGeek.com. Boyle will become an unrestricted free agent next July. Kurz writes that Boyle is likely seeking a three-year extension, as Bazos stated that the aging blue liner believes he can play into his 40s.
Boyle was rumored as a potential trade asset prior to last season’s deadline. Ultimately, San Jose retained his services and he was a contributing member to the club’s playoff run, which fell one win shy of the Western Conference Final. According to Bazos, an extension could be finalized prior to opening night but talks have not progressed to the point of expecting such an occurrence.
