Restricted free agent forward Adam Henrique has come to terms on a contract extension with the New Jersey Devils, the team announced on Monday afternoon. The two-sides agreed on a six-year, $24 million contract that will carry an annual average value of $4 million against the salary cap, according to multiple reports. Henrique had played out a three-year, $2.65 million contract in 2013, according to CapGeek.com.

The 23-year-old forward has become a key player in the Devils offensive game in just two season. He was a Calder Trophy nominee following his rookie season of 2011-12, when he scored 16 goals and 51 points. He was more remembered that season for scoring two playoff series clinching, overtime goals. One defeated the Florida Panthers in double overtime of Game 7 in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, and the other ended Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Final against the New York Rangers.
Some felt Henrique went through a bit of a sophomore slump last season. He scored 11 goals, but only put up five assists, down from 35 the season before. In 117 career NHL games, Henrique has 27 goals and 67 points.
