Unrestricted free agent defenseman Tomas Kaberle is nearing a deal with Dinamo Minsk of Russia's Kontinental Hockey League, according to a report from Miroslav Horak of iSport.cz. Igor Eronko of Sports.ru tweeted an English translation of the news since Horak's original report was written in Czech.

Kaberle became a free agent at the end of June after the Montreal Canadiens used their final compliance buyout on the 35-year-old defenseman. He was entering the final year of a three-year, $12.75 million contract that carried an annual average value of $4.25 million against the salary cap. The contract was originally signed with the Carolina Hurricanes but was transferred to the Canadiens after Kaberle was traded 29 games into the first-year of the deal.
The veteran defenseman’s performance has drastically declined over the last few years, which resulted in his playing for three teams over the span of two seasons. Kaberle only played in 10 games with the Canadiens in 2013 and did not dress in the playoffs.
