The Toronto Maple Leafs and restricted free agent forward Nazem Kadri are apparently making progress in contract negotiations, as both sides are working under the premise of a two-year bridge contract, according to Bob McKenzie of TSN.

Speaking on TSN Drive with Dave Naylor on Monday evening, McKenzie stated that Kadri’s camp was requesting a two-year, $7 million contract, which would carry an annual average value of $3.5 million against the salary cap. Previous reports indicated that Kadri was seeking a multi-year contract with an annual value around $5.5 million.

The Maple Leafs have remained consistent in offering a two-year contract with an annual salary just under $3 million. According to McKenzie, the team's most recent offer is for two-years, $5.7 million, which amounts to an annual salary of $2.85 million. Toronto presently has just under $4.9 million in cap space, according to CapGeek.com. In addition to Kadri, the team has also been negotiating with restricted free agent defenseman Cody Franson.
