Based upon multiple reports -- including one that contained confirmation from the player himself -- Daniel Cleary was going to accept a professional tryout contract from the Philadelphia Flyers and then sign a three-year, $8.25 million offer in October. The reason for that is because Philadelphia is facing cap constraints and need the aide of long-term injured reserve to make space for such a signing.
Dan Cleary will not be joining the Flyers, according to report
Apparently, a complication has occurred between Dan Cleary and the Flyers. He will no longer be joining the team.
However, the team’s salary cap situation might not need as much maneuvering as expected as Elliotte Friedman of CBC is reporting that a complication has arisen between Cleary and the Flyers, which will result in the player not joining the team after all.
Philadelphia is holding the first day of media sessions on Wednesday, which Cleary was not expected to attend. Members of the Philadelphia media corps have been tweeting that the Flyers informed them that Cleary will be available on Thursday, the first official day of camp.
However, that was stated prior to Friedman’s report.
As of this time, it’s unclear what the complication is and what impact it will have on Cleary’s future.
