The list of restricted free agents loses names day by day as teams and players are finally forced to compromise before the player misses too much training camp.
Jared Cowen contract: Sens, defenseman agree to 4-year deal
The 22-year-old will finally join the team on Monday.

That’s the case with the Ottawa Senators and defenseman Jared Cowan. The club and the restricted free agent defenseman agreed on a four-year contract worth $13.5 million, the Sens announced on Saturday. He will carry a cap hit of $3.1 million per season. Cowen will join the team in Saskatoon on Monday, where they will continue training camp and prepare for a game against the Calgary Flames on Tuesday.
Cowen remains a part of an solid young defensive core in Ottawa along with Erik Karlsson. Both are now signed for a longer term. The 22-year-old defenseman spent most of the 2012-13 season with a torn labrum he suffered during the lockout while playing for the Binghamton Senators (AHL). But he returned in time for the Senators playoff run, which saw them advancing to the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Cowen did play in all 82 games the season before, in 2011-12.
