Damien Brunner has accepted a professional tryout contract with the New Jersey Devils.

The 27-year-old forward played in his first NHL season in 2013 and registered 26 points (12 goals and 14 assists) in 44 regular season games with the Detroit Red Wings. Given Brunner's limited resume in the league, it was reported that Detroit and Brunner's representation had a difficult time gauging market value. This ultimately led to his hitting the free agent market.
Upon hitting the open market, Brunner seemingly faced the same hurdles in negotiating with other clubs as he did with Detroit. In addition, the lowered $64.3 million salary cap in 2013-14 certainly didn’t benefit Brunner, as the majority of clubs had limited space to operate under. In fact, rumors surfaced that Brunner would look to sign overseas while waiting for an NHL opportunity.
That will no longer be necessary, at least for the time being.
New Jersey manager Lou Lamoriello expects Brunner to be in camp on Tuesday morning.
