The Toronto Maple Leafs have come to terms on a one-year contract with Mason Raymond, according to multiple reports on Monday afternoon. Chris Johnston of Sportsnet was the first to report the development. Raymond will receive $1 million in 2013-14, according to David Alter of Sportsnet.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed Mayson Raymond to a one-year contract. The move raises questions about what the future holds for Cody Franson in Toronto.

Raymond was extended a professional tryout contract by the Maple Leafs and impressed many during his time with the team. The indication was that Toronto and Raymond would look to negotiate a one-year contract, as the Maple Leafs are limited in their salary cap flexibility. In addition, Raymond is looking for an opportunity to display his long-term worth and with the salary cap expected to exponentially rise next season, the 28-year-old forward could cash-in with a substantial raise next summer.
Of course, the Maple Leafs salary cap is an interesting component to this agreement. The team was already tight on space and the pending suspensions of David Clarkson and Phil Kessel will only further exasperate that squeeze. With restricted free agent defenseman Cody Franson still unsigned, it remains to be seen what the team's plan is for dealing with his situation.
TSN’s Darren Dreger previously stated that the franchise might look to move Franson. In addition, Dreger has commented that the Maple Leafs will likely not field a full roster until after the trade deadline because of salary cap commitments.
