Carl Hagelin goes for a dive

This is how you negate a power play by trying to embellish the original call.

Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Spor

It's pretty clear that Ryan Garbutt did something to interfere with Carl Hagelin in their race for the puck early in the third period on Friday night, but Hagelin seemed to really go out of his way to draw attention to it.

And the referees made sure to hit him with a well deserved diving call. Hagelin_medium

This is how it’s possible for a penalty and an embellishment call to coexist. Sometimes a penalty is committed. And sometimes the guy on the receiving end goes out of his way to make it look worse than it really was. By sliding 15 feet across the ice.
