The highs and lows of the Washington Capitals

Hockey is a crazy game sometimes with great saves followed by moments of unpredictable madness.

A lot of times in hockey your luck balances out. Sometimes you get a great scoring chance, a wide open look at the net, only to have the goalie make an incredible desperation save to keep the puck out of the net.

Later, randomness takes over and you score on a complete fluke.

That brings us to the Red Wings-Capitals game on Friday.

In the first period Capitals goalie Michal Neuvirth made what might be the save of the night when he made this sprawling glove save on Gustav Nyquist to keep the game scoreless. One night after the Capitals allowed five goals in Columbus, saves like this were probably a sight for sore eyes.

Beautiful stuff. But because the Capitals’ season to this point has been an emotional roller coaster, and because we live in a balanced universe, something like this had to happen in the second period.

Sometimes hockey is a cruel, twisted and crazy game.
