2014 World Junior Championship: Jesper Pettersson leaves penalty box to fight

The IIHF won’t like that at all.

Bruce Bennett

The first semifinal game of the 2014 World Junior Championships was perhaps the most entertaining game of the tournament yet, but it ended with some nonsense that will cost Team Sweden.

The third period between Sweden and Russia was hotly contested, and the tension bubbled over in the final seconds. As the clock wound down on Sweden’s 2-1 win, a fracas built along the boards between the two squads. Sweden’s Jesper Pettersson skated right out of the penalty box and jumped Russia’s Andrei Mironov, which will probably lead to a suspension in the tournament final.

Yeah, you’re not allowed to do that. Sweden’s coach wasn’t too happy about it either.
