The Carolina Hurricanes are in a middle of a push for one the three guaranteed playoff spots in the Metropolitan Division. For about a week, however, they'll have to do it without their captain Eric Staal, who was injured Saturday in a game against the Islanders.
Eric Staal injury: Canes’ captain to miss 5-6 days
After sustaining a lower body injury on Saturday, Eric Staal was held out of the Hurricanes’ Sunday game, and will miss about a week.

Staal left with what was termed a lower-body injury, and his status for Sunday night’s game against Nashville was uncertain. But hours before that matchup, Hurricanes coach Kirk Muller announced the all-star forward would miss 5-6 days with the injury.
Coach Muller said Eric Staal's lower-body injury could keep him out 5-6 days. Harrison will be a game-time decision tonight.

Tonight will mark Eric Staal's first game missed due to injury since Feb. 26, 2011. He's played in 191 straight games since then.
— Michael Smith (@MSmithCanes) January 5, 2014 The Hurricanes are part of the Metro Division jumble that includes the Flyers, Capitals, Rangers, Devils, and Blue Jackets, six teams fighting for two playoff spots, and separated by six points entering Sunday night's action.
