Buffalo Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers was called into the principals' office on Monday for an illegal check to the head of New Jersey Devils forward Dainius Zubrus over the weekend.

The result of that meeting: A three-game suspension.

Myers was penalized two-minutes for the hit, which occurred in the third period of Buffalo’s 2-1 win on Saturday. Here is the play, as well as Brendan Shanahan’s explanation for the suspension.

As a result of the suspension Myers will lose $84,615.39 in salary.

In 42 games this season, Myers has scored four goals to go with eight assists for the last place Sabres. He will miss the team’s upcoming games against Carolina, Florida and Washington and be eligible to return to the lineup on Jan. 14 when they host the Philadelphia Flyers.
