Chris Kreider ejected for boarding Fedor Tyutin

Should Chris Kreider face additional discipline for this hit on Fedor Tyutin?

Will Chris Kreider be the next player to hear from the NHL’s department of player safety?

He probably has their attention after he was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct for boarding Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Fedor Tyutin 22 seconds into the second period on Monday night.

The result certainly looks bad, but it also appears that Kreider is attempting to stop before making contact. It’s a tough call, and one that is now in the hands of the NHL. And when that happens nobody really knows what is going to come next.

Following the hit Brandon Dubinsky jumped in and attempted to fight Kreider. Dubinsky was assessed a two-minute minor for roughing for his involvement in the incident.

The Blue Jackets immediately cashed in on the ensuing 4-on-4 situation thanks to a Cam Atkinson goal to take a 2-1 lead.
