Sabres goalie Jhonas Enroth: ‘It’s tough to win with this team’

Jhonas Enroth was brutally honest after Buffalo’s latest loss.

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

Another night, another dismal offensive performance for the Buffalo Sabres in what turned out to be a 2-1 shootout loss to the Florida Panthers.

The tough-luck loser in net for the Sabres in this game was backup Jhonas Enroth, whose record fell to just 1-8-4 on the season despite posting a solid .910 save percentage. The reason for such a bad record? In his 14 appearances the Sabres have scored just 18 goals for him. That includes three games in which they were shut out.

What’s a goalie supposed to do with that sort of support? Nothing, really. And Enroth was refreshingly honest about it after the game when talking to the Buffalo media.

There’s probably going to be somebody that’s critical of Enroth for throwing his team under the bus, but given that Buffalo is currently having one of the worst offensive seasons in league history he’s obviously not wrong. Plus, we always want our athletes to be more honest and not simply spout off cliches.

This all comes on the same day that Buffalo hired a new general manager, Tim Murray, that correctly pointed out that he’s taking over a last place team and that every player could be traded.

Dark times in Buffalo.
