Former NHL goon can’t learn a lesson, slams AHL opponent’s head into ice

That's Trevor Gillies grabbing the head of an opponent and slamming it into the ice.
To add context, Gillies' team was down 5-1 at the time, and the announcers said Gillies had only taken 1 other shift the entire game.
— Evan Sporer (@ev_sporer) October 11, 2014 You probably know Gillies from his repeated nonsense in the NHL. During his last full NHL season, 2010-11 with the New York Islanders, Gillies was suspended 10 games for a hit on Eric Tangradi of the Penguins. Then, in his first game back after that 10 game ban, he was suspended again for this hit on Cal Clutterbuck of the Wild.
As you might imagine, he’s barely played in the NHL since. After a year in Russia, he played in the AHL and ECHL last season with Abbotsford and Orlando. He was in the AHL season opener Friday night for the Adirondack Flames when the above incident took place.
The league has suspended him one game -- an automatic ban for fighting in the final five minutes of a game -- and its press release makes it seem as though more will be coming.
Update: more punishment came. That’s a 12 game ban for Gillies.
