Flyers lose in shootout after blowing 3-goal third period lead

For 47 minutes on Saturday the Philadelphia Flyers put together a strong effort against the Montreal Canadiens and looked to be well on their way to their first win of the season thanks to a three-goal lead. That is, until everything fell apart in spectacular fashion and the Flyers somehow ended up on the wrong end of a 4-3 shootout loss, extending their season-opening losing streak to three.

Over the final 13 minutes of regulation the Flyers were absolutely pummeled and allowed Montreal to get 15 of the final 19 shots, including goals from Andrei Markov, Tomas Plekanec and Alex Galchenyuk to send the game to overtime. It was there that Philadelphia had a chance to salvage the night and win it on the power play after Montreal's Lars Eller took an offensive zone penalty, but the Flyers could not find a way to beat Carey Price to salvage the night.

P.A Parenteau ended up scoring the only goal in the shootout to hand the Flyers their third straight frustrating loss to open the year.

This is going to be the problem with the Flyers this season and what could ultimately hurt their chances. They are going to score some goals, but with an already thin defense that is without its best player (Kimmo Timonen) and playing in front of two bad goalies, no lead is going to be safe and no number of goals should be a comfortable amount to guarantee a win.
