Per NYR broadcast, while walking into MSG, Kessel told @MSGNetworks' Dave Maloney, "Watch, I'll score tonight," when asked about slow start
— Mark Masters (@markhmasters) October 12, 2014 Phil Kessel follows through on pregame goal prediction
Kessel told a TV reporter that he would score on Sunday. And that’s just what he did.

Maple Leafs star winger Phil Kessel was pointless through the first two games of the season. Sure, it was just two games. But when you play in Toronto, a slow start means your game falls directly under the city's microscope.
So making that kind of prediction before a nationally televised game was a bold move. Even bolder? Following it up with a sweet power-play goal to give his team the lead.
Touche, Phil.
