Bruins assistant coach Doug Houda needs staples after taking puck to head

Houda had to briefly leave Wednesday’s game against the Detroit Red Wings after the incident.

Hockey is a dangerous game. With big guys flying around and chasing a bouncing piece of frozen rubber around the ice on razor sharp skates while other big guys try to inflict bodily harm on them, sometimes people are are going to get hurt. And it’s not just limited to the players on the ice. Sometimes it extends to players sitting on the bench.

And even the coaches.

On Wednesday, Boston Bruins assistant coach Doug Houda had to briefly leave the game against the Detroit Red Wings to get some repair work done after a wayward puck struck him on top of the head. He would later return to the game with some fresh staplework on his dome.
