Slava Voynov has been suspended indefinitely by the NHL after being charged with domestic violence. He allegedly sent his girlfriend to the hospital after an incident early Monday morning in California.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY SportsIt’s alleged that Voynov assaulted his wife, Marta Varlamova, during an altercation in October, after which he was suspended indefinitely by the NHL. Charges were later filed against him, and the details coming from the court room Monday are disgusting and disturbing.

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY SportsVoynov’s suspension states that he is barred from all club activities and Kings general manager Dean Lombardi confirmed that there has been no change in Voynov’s status, per Lisa Dillman of the Los Angeles Times. Team officials originally would not comment on why Voynov was on the ice Tuesday, but Lombardi later stated that he thought it would be good for Voynov to be around his teammates for the day.

Sergei Belski-USA TODAY SportsTMZ is reporting details of the alleged crime that led to the arrest and suspension of Los Angeles Kings defenseman Slava Voynov. The report claims that the the victim, who says she is in a relationship with Voynov, was injured badly enough to require hospitalization.
Police in Redondo Beach, Calif. have since given details about the case, essentially confirming everything reported by TMZ. Voynov was arrested at the hospital after staff alerted the police that their presence was needed. He was released from police custody on $50,000 bail later Monday morning.

Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY SportsFurther details on the arrest are not immediately known, but it was made under section 273.5 of the California Penal Code. He will continue to be paid while the investigation continues, but is barred from attending any team activities.

“273.5. (a) Any person who willfully inflicts corporal injury resulting in a traumatic condition upon a victim described in subdivision (b) is guilty of a felony, and upon conviction thereof shall be punished by imprisonment in the state prison for two, three, or four years, or in a county jail for not more than one year, or by a fine of up to six thousand dollars ($6,000) or by both that fine and imprisonment.”
The Redondo Beach jail released Voynov on $50,000 bond around noon ET, according to Rich Hammond of the Orange County Register. Voynov’s next court appearance was scheduled for Oct. 22 in Torrance, but was moved to Dec. 1. The Redondo Police Department is expected to release a statement later on Monday.
