The theme of Sunday in the NHL was fighting. There were several dustups around the league including in Anaheim where a line brawl was part of 165 penalty minutes racked up between the Ducks and Sharks.

    Normally Sunday nights in the NHL are low-energy affairs. These nights are basically the NHL equivalent of staying in after a long Saturday night full of rough-and-tumble action.

    Not this night. No, this Sunday night featured a special brand of roughness that occasionally bordered on dangerous, but usually trended toward flat-out entertaining.

    Instead of Anaheim going to the power play, the officials handed out matching minor penalties because they believed that Vatanen was embellishing. This was probably because of how his head snapped back, which was probably because he got the toe of a stick blade right in the face.

    Surprisingly, the Ducks were not pleased with this decision and felt they were due a power play.

    Foligno did show motion in his arms and head briefly after the incident, but trainers from both teams wisely brought out the stretcher and took time to position him safely before carrying him away as he gave a thumbs up to the crowd.

    The Blue Jackets released some relieving news minutes after Foligno left the ice.
