Devils vs. Bruins 2014 final score: 3 things we learned from Boston’s 4-2 win

The Bruins keep rolling and the Devils keep losing.

Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Bruins continued their hot play with a 4-2 win against the New Jersey Devils.

The Bruins got goals from four different players and Tuukka Rask saved 26 shots to secure the win. That was Boston's fifth win in a row and even in spite of all the injuries, the Bruins are rolling. Torey Krug returned to the lineup after breaking his finger and jumped right into the fire playing 21:16

The Devils, on the other hand, are going in the other direction. The loss to the Bruins was New Jersey's fourth in a row and they've got to shake it off quickly as they host the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday. Cory Schneider looked a bit off as he's started every game this season.

Three Things We Learned

1. How rough was Schneider's night? The second period goal he gave up to Bruins rookie Seth Griffith should say it all. Griffith's between-the-legs highlight reel goal is the kind of stuff that winds up on year-end videos. Sure, it's a bad goal for Schneider to give up, but when they get scored like that you just have to enjoy the hell out of it and smile.

2. Speaking of smiles - give it up to Jaromir Jagr who scored his 708th career goal - tying him with Mike Gartner for sixth all-time in goals. He's nine behind Phil Esposito for fifth place, 23 behind Marcel Dionne for fourth, and 33 behind Brett Hull for third. Jagr did say he wanted to play until he's 50 and if he keeps sniping shots like this, he'll just keep climbing the leader board.

3. Why yes, they are still calling embellishment penalties. Referees Tom Kowal and Greg Kimmerly called two embellishment minors in the game - one each for Boston's Reilly Smith and Brad Marchand. Somewhere, a Montreal Canadiens fans is smiling contentedly about this fact in spite of their rivals winning the game.
