Scott Hartnell made sure his return to Philadelphia was a good one.
NHL scores 2014: Red Wings humble Blackhawks, Blue Jackets snap 9-game skid
Detroit took out Chicago in a battle of rivals while Scott Hartnell’s return to Philly was a positive one. Elsewhere, the Penguins defense stiffened up in a 2-1 win against the Maple Leafs.

The Columbus Blue Jackets snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 4-3 win against the Philadelphia Flyers. James Wisniewski and Nick Foligno each had two goals and Ryan Johansen assisted on all of them to lead the way. The teams combined to score five power play goals and it was at 5-on-5 the Flyers struggled to keep up.
Elsewhere, the Detroit Red Wings beat the Chicago Blackhawks, 4-1, in a battle between rivals. After an even first period that saw Luke Glendening and Patrick Kane trade goals, the Red Wings found their way in the second with goals from Johan Franzen and Tomas Tatar. Detroit outshot Chicago, 37-26.
Pavel Datsyuk returned to the Detroit lineup after he missed the past two games with a groin problem. He had an assist on Brendan Smith's empty-net goal in 16:46.
The Pittsburgh Penguins played an outstanding defensive game in a 2-1 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Hall of Fame Night in Toronto. The Penguins got two goals from Pascal Dupuis and Thomas Greiss made 30 saves. Cody Franson extended his point streak to six straight games with a third period goal.
The one thing everyone will be talking about from that game? Dion Phaneuf's monstrous hit on Patric Hornqvist and subsequent fight with Evgeni Malkin.

3 Things We Learned
1. Maybe Cory Schneider doesn't need a day off after all. Schneider has started every game this season for the Devils, 17 straight, and while there have been nights where it looked like he could use a night off, he was strong against the Capitals on Friday with a 30-save shutout. The Devils play again on Saturday against Colorado and there's no reason to think coach Peter DeBoer is going to alter his plan now, especially after such a brilliant performance.
2. Ryan Johansen is making everyone else look like a sucker. No, not because of his new contract, but because he was able to skip out on all of training camp and still be the Blue Jackets’ best player. He assisted on all four Blue Jackets goals and leads the team in points with 20. With how hurt most of Columbus’ roster has been so far this season, perhaps his absence in camp helped him miss out on the day when the voodoo curse was cast.
3. Let's not sleep on the Islanders. You might dismiss the Isles' shootout win against the Panthers, but do so at your own peril. The win was their fifth straight and they have a shot at six in a row Saturday against Tampa Bay. During their five-game run they've beaten the Ducks and Kings on the road and shut out the Coyotes and Avalanche. With Jaroslav Halak playing well and John Tavares and Kyle Okposo doing their thing, the Isles are going to continue being tough.

Stat of the Night
You may have missed out on this, but Jaroslav Halak and the New York Islanders had one heck of a goaltending streak headed into their game against the Panthers. Jimmy Hayes helped spoil the party.
Shutout streaks end on Hayes goals: Team 193:48, personal (Halak) 156:04 #isles #NHL

Did you see the save Jaro Halak made with his freakin’ neck?
The Lightning are getting more out of their fourth line and Jon Cooper is to thank for that.
It wouldn’t have been a proper return to Philadelphia for Scott Hartnell without an official #HartnellDown.
