Wild blow three-goal third period lead to Jets

That should not have gone in, Nicklas Backstrom.

Minnesota should have wrapped up their game with the Jets on Sunday fairly easily considering how dominant they were in the first two periods. At one point midway through the game the Jets had just four shots on net after goalie Ondrej Pavelec gave up three goals on eleven shots. The Wild entered the third period with a 3-0 lead and a win in sight.

And then they collapsed. More specifically, their goaltending and defending just failed to stop anything thrown their way. First Michael Frolik slipped a goal under Nicklas Backstrom's flailing right pad to end the shutout.

Then Evander Kane somehow scored on his backhand from deep in the corner. Nine times out of ten that’s not even a scoring opportunity, but the puck managed to slip by Backstrom again.

We’ve watched that GIF at least thirty times now. We’ve given up trying to figure out what happened.

Minutes later, the Jets completed the comeback when Jets captain Andrew Ladd deflected a shot by Backstrom.

That was all she wrote for Backstrom, who got pulled once the game was tied. Just like that, a commanding 3-0 lead disappeared. Some Wild fan who turned the game off when it was 3-0 is going to be very surprised when he wakes up tomorrow morning.
