In the latest edition of Will the Philadelphia Flyers please just stop tweeting, we have learned that captain Claude Giroux will take part in pregame skate against the New York Rangers on Wednesday night.
Claude Giroux injury timeline, Flyers’ Twitter continues to drive us insane
It’s quite simple: Claude Giroux will either play, not play or perform in a Broadway show. All three are apparently on the table.

Claude Giroux will take part in warmups tonight, per #Flyers GM Ron Hextall. #PHIvsNYR
— Philadelphia Flyers (@NHLFlyers) November 19, 2014 This is in contrast to a tweet from the Flyers on Tuesday that said he wouldn’t be playing on Wednesday:
Per #Flyers GM Ron Hextall, Claude Giroux suffered a lower-body injury yesterday during practice and will not play tomorrow.
— Philadelphia Flyers (@NHLFlyers) November 18, 2014 Which conflicted with a tweet sent on Monday:
Claude Giroux was evaluated by team doctors tonight and he is fine, according to #Flyers GM Ron Hextall.
— Philadelphia Flyers (@NHLFlyers) November 18, 2014 All of this culminated in the belief that Giroux had a lower-body injury, was in a walking boot and would not play on Wednesday night.
Then, Howard “THE KING” Eskin -- who always seems to say things that nobody believes are true, until they always eventually end up being true -- reported that Giroux would be playing on Wednesday night:
Claude Giroux skated w @NHLFlyers this morning and has good chance of playing tonight at #NYRangers.
— Howard Eskin (@howardeskin) November 19, 2014 In making clear @NHLFlyers Claude Giroux will skate w team 2night in pre game warmup and chance he will play #NYRangers. No skate in morning
— Howard Eskin (@howardeskin) November 19, 2014 Which conflicted with what every Flyers beat reporter believed to be true:
Despite a report, Giroux did not skate with Flyers today. He is out tonight.
— Sam Carchidi (@BroadStBull) November 19, 2014 ★★★
The insanity that is the Giroux drama began on Monday night when the Flyers ominously tweeted that Giroux would not be attending a season-ticket holder event because he was being seen by team doctors:
Claude Giroux is unable to attend tonight's Season Ticket Holder event. He is being evaluated by team doctors.
— Philadelphia Flyers (@NHLFlyers) November 17, 2014 Naturally, everyone assumed Giroux had the mumps, which is actually a legitimate concern in the NHL in 2014.
The Flyers took to Twitter again a few hours later and calmed the concerns of the masses:
Claude Giroux was evaluated by team doctors tonight and he is fine, according to #Flyers GM Ron Hextall.
— Philadelphia Flyers (@NHLFlyers) November 18, 2014 AND THEN STOKED THE FLAMES THE VERY NEXT DAY:
Per #Flyers GM Ron Hextall, Claude Giroux suffered a lower-body injury yesterday during practice and will not play tomorrow.
— Philadelphia Flyers (@NHLFlyers) November 18, 2014 Then the Flyers arrived at Madison Square Garden with Giroux’s equipment, but that was only because they didn’t want it to get lonely while the other bags of equipment were inside the building:
#flyers Giroux supposedly out tonight at NYR, but his gear just arrived as it was in elevator with me pic.twitter.com/2WIF53rtfo
— Randy Miller (@RandyJMiller) November 19, 2014 Giroux equipment was brought in b/c only half of it was on team bus and staff wanted complete travel set. He is not here, not skating today
— Tim Panaccio (@tpanotchCSN) November 19, 2014 Except he is there and he is skating and the Flyers keep toying with our emotions.
Giroux took a limo from Philly to NYC today, Berube said
— Randy Miller (@RandyJMiller) November 19, 2014 Berube says if Giroux feels good after warmup, he plays.
— Tim Panaccio (@tpanotchCSN) November 19, 2014 Berube says Giroux is #fine
— Dave Isaac (@davegisaac) November 19, 2014 Which brings us full-circle back to Monday:
Claude Giroux was evaluated by team doctors tonight and he is fine, according to #Flyers GM Ron Hextall.
— Philadelphia Flyers (@NHLFlyers) November 18, 2014 Fine.
Here’s the thing: this happens every damn year and I fall for it every damn year. I know better. I’ve been following this team since I was 6 years old. They always do this. I actually wrote about them doing stuff like this last year and compared them to a television show. And the reason I compared them to a television show is because the Flyers are just like a television show.
The Flyers say one thing, then do another thing and then do a totally different thing just because they love toying with you. and me. and everyone who isn’t Howard Eskin, who is always right but never gets credit for being right.
