Robert Bortuzzo tried to head-butt Matt Martin in a fight
It wasn’t very effective.

Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports
The official NHL Rulebook defines head-butting as “a player making intentional contact, or attempting to make contact, with an opponent by leading with his head and/or helmet.”
By that definition it's hard not to call whatever Robert Bortuzzo tried to do to Matt Martin during a fight on Friday "head-butting." The referees, however, didn't think it merited the required penalty and let the fight continue. And why not? It might have been the most ineffective head-butt ever.
