Patrik Elias invented a backhand knuckleball goal against Lightning

The wily Devils veteran had a trick up his sleeve.

Patrik Elias couldn't keep his eyes off the video screen replay as he skated back to the bench after his first period goal. Can you blame him? The New Jersey Devils veteran essentially invented a brand new kind of shot.

As if the spin-o-rama backhand shot around the defenseman wasn't enough, Elias somehow turned his shot into the hockey equivalent of baseball's knuckleball. Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Evgeni Nabokov had no idea where to swat his blocker at that thing.
