Derek Stepan steals puck, scores breakaway shorthanded goal

The Rangers center continues his strong return.

Power plays pretty much have one huge defensive responsibility: don’t turn the puck over at the blueline. We don’t have the exact stat (because that would take forever to research), but that probably results in a shorthanded goal against 90 percent of the time.

So when New York Rangers penalty killer Derek Stepan deflected a New Jersey Devils pass at the point, you knew what was about to happen.

Poor Cory Schneider just can’t catch a break this year. By the way, that’s Stepan’s fourth goal and 20th point since making his season debut on Nov. 8 (and he later scored another goal in the second period). Not a bad start for the Rangers center.
