Winter Olympics 2014 hockey results: Routs, shutouts in Groups B and C
Things are starting to take shape in Groups B and C as each team has now played two games in pool play.
In its first game without captain Henrik Zetterberg, Sweden struggled to find offense, but only needed one goal, as Henrik Lundqvist pitched a shutout and the Swedes improved to 2-0. Reto Berra had a strong game in net for Switzerland, except on the game's decisive goal, when a Berra rebound on a soft shot would lead to a Daniel Alfredsson rebound strike with only 7:21 remaining.
Czech Republic 4, Latvia 2
While it may not have been the complete performance they were looking for, the Czech Republic did get in the win column with a hard-fought 4-2 win over Latvia. The teams traded goals to the tune of a 2-2 tie early in the third period, before tallies by Jakub Voracek and Marek Zidlicky sealed the win for the Czechs.
Canada 6, Austria 0
Jeff Carter entered Canada's game against Austria as the 13th forward. In fairness, Canada has a pretty deep talent pool of players. Carter netted a natural hat trick in the second period, and Canada cruised to a 6-0 win over Austria. Roberto Luongo made 23 saves in net for Canada, who had nine different players record a point.
Finland 6, Norway 1
Kari Lehtonen got the nod for the Finns over Tuukka Rask, and not only backstopped Finland to a blowout victory, but also record two assists. Finland had an easy time dispatching Norway, as Teemu Selanne scored early, and Lauri Korpikoski added a pair of his own. Olli Maatta, the 19-year-old Penguins defenseman, continued his strong tournament with a goal and two assists.
