Winter Olympic hockey odds: Canada favored to win Gold

Canada was favored to win Gold entering the Olympics and nothing has changed following the preliminary round.

Canada was favored to win the men’s ice hockey tournament heading into the 2014 Sochi Olympics, and that hasn’t changed following a promising performance in the preliminary round. The oddsmakers at Bovada have given Canada 7/4 odds to defend its Gold Medal won at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

The United States also emerged as a Gold Medal candidate after recording eight points in the preliminary round and winning Group A. Bovada gives the United States 11/4 odds of winning the tournament, while the host nation, Russia, is given 16/5 odds of winning Gold on home soil. Sweden, Group C’s winner and the only club to finish the tournament with nine points, is given 5/1 odds of capturing gold.

In addition, Bovada has established lines for MVP, with Canadian captain Sidney Crosby and United States sniper Phil Kessel leading the pack with 11/2 odds. Russian captain Pavel Datsyuk is given 13/2 odds of being named MVP, while Canadian defenseman Drew Doughty is given 15/2 odds.

Doughty is also given 13/2 odds of finishing as the tournament's leading goal scorer after recording four goals in the preliminary round. Kessel also recorded four goals for the United States and is given 7/4 odds of finishing as the leading goal scorer. Austrian forward Michael Grabner is given the best odds, 5/4, after accumulating five goals in the preliminary round.
