Canadiens trade Raphael Diaz to Canucks for Dale Weise

The Montreal Canadiens have traded Raphael Diaz to the Vancouver Canucks for Dale Weise.

The Vancouver Canucks have acquired defenseman Raphael Diaz from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forward Dale Weise, the Canucks announced on Monday afternoon.

Diaz is a 28-year-old, right-handed defenseman who is playing out the final year of a two-year, $2.45 million contract and will be an unrestricted free agent this summer, according to CapGeek.com. He is averaging 18:54 of ice-time per game — ranking fourth amongst Canadiens’ defenseman — and includes an average of 2:44 on the penalty kill and 1:13 on the power play per game. Diaz has recorded 11 assists in 46 games during the 2013-14 season.

Weise is a 25-year-old forward who is playing out the final year of a one-year, $750,000 contract and will be a restricted free agent this summer, according to CapGeek. He is averaging 7:46 of ice-time per game and has 12 points (three goals, nine assists) in 44 games this season.
